Thematic Interest & Activities
Winery: The new Matetic vineyards winery, designed by the
Viña Matetic team in cooperation with architect Lawrence Odfjell,
is a state-of-the-art winemaking facility, constructed so as to
complement its glorious setting. In other words, harmony has been
reached between the winery´s organic agricutural practices and the
natural landscape of the valley. This winery, which has a 300
thousand-liter capacity, relies on a gravitational-flow design
that optimizes management of the grapes brought in from the nearby
vineyards. During a tour, visitors can learn about the different
phases of wine production while appreciating stunning views of the
vineyards and the beautiful Rosario Valley.
Wine Cellar: During the design of this room, achieving the
optimum conditions to store and age wines was of utmost
importance. Temperature, humidity, and the amount of light were
taken into account to create a cellar with the perfect conditions.
This part of the winery is one of the most important as this is
where the wines are kept for months in silence. This constant
contact of must and French oak results in refined aromas and gives
birth of grand wines.
Tasting Room: The tasting room is where the winemaker taste
and present the finished products. This is also where guests are
invited to sample the high quality of Matetic wines and purchase
wine, accessories, and a number of products made in Chile.
Wine Tours: Chile: a country of wines where the increasing
wine tour industry finds one of its best exponents. An astonishing
22 acre valley embraced by beautiful mountains where the scents of
the country side and the sea are gifts of the nature to produce
world class wines and the opportunity to share them with our
guests in one of the most exclusive wine tours in Chile.
It’s Matetic: an outstanding vineyard located in the Valley of
Rosario where our guest have the chance to be part of an exclusive
wine tour to discover the various stages of wine production and to
enjoy the outstandingly beautiful natural surroundings by
participating in a wide range of thoroughly designed outdoor
activities, such as horseback rides, trekking and bicycle
circuits. This certainly provides a perfect complement to the
tastes and scents of wines in Chile.
We are deeply convinced that wine tours are a perfect excuse to
show one of the main features of Chile as a country: its
cordiality and warmth. Our guest will have the opportunity to
experience this feature by participating in the Harvest ritual, a
magical event taking place from March to April where our guest
will witness the magic of collecting the very source of the
exquisite wines produced in the Central Zone of Chile.
Wine tours are undoubtedly an excellent environment for your
business meetings. Viña Matetic’s main house has been carefully
modified to provide our guests with the best infrastructure in
beautifully decorated spaces to hold their meetings in a warm
environment. Our guest will also have the chance to become
outstanding hosts by showing the incredible attributes of Chile’s
countryside life in a beautiful spot located nearby the cities of
Valparaiso and Santiago, two of Chile’s main attractions.
Agrotourism: Harvest and Horseback Riding
Harvest: From the end of February through the second week
of May.Guests can live the experience of each stage of the
harvest, accompanied by a guide from the winery.
Horseback Riding: Horseback-riding experience is
recommended. Short rides last one to two hours, with a 30-minute
break; long rides last three to four hours with a break for either
lunch or snacks. Terrain includes ravines and hilltops and
spectacular views of Rosario Valley. Five or six guests per ride.
Outdoor Activities: Hiking and Biking
These activities seek to connect the visitor with nature in the
Rosario Valley through contemplative walks or activities that
require more physical effort.
The activities include walks on the Huayun trail, the path of the
senses, or one can simply walk cross the meadows or rolling hills
observing local flora and fauna.
Hiking: Trails, which cut through native forests, mountains,
hills, valleys, ravines, and plains, are all well-marked, perfect
for self-guided walks ranging from 1½ to 2 hours in duration.
Biking
Standard bike: A 20-to 30-minute circuit through the property. The
path, approximately 3,000 meters long and two meters wide at its
narrowest, runs past small farms, through prairies and over
bridges, with periodic rest stations. The bikes are standard,
model 1939.
Mountain bike: A 1½- to 2-hour circuit through different types of
terrain such as valleys, mountains, and river beds. There are also
ramps for jumping, security fences, equilibrium trails in the
gorges and a lookout and tunnel for more expert riders. Beautiful
lookouts are located within both the native and introduced
forests. The path, 5,000 meters in length, is 50 cm wide.
The Wines: EQ, Corralillo & Matetic.
EQ: EQ is short for equilibrium. This concept stands for the
commitment Matetic vineyards has with nature in creating a harmony
between the soil, the climate and the vines. The varieties are:
Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah.
Corralillo: Corralillo represents the name of the still-standing
century-old wine cellar and winery in Rosario Valley where wine of
the old Mission grape was once made. The varieties are Chardonnay,
Gewurztraminer, Syrah and a red blend.
Matetic: The Matetic Family has been pioneers in cultivating Syrah
in the cool climate of the San Antonio Valley. In the old soil of
granite origin found on our Rosario property, the fruit ripens
slowly giving us the highest quality grapes. The organic technique
of caring for the vines allows them to preserve their natural
balance and express their authentic characteristics. The optimum
quality of the grapes, the careful attention to every detail, and
our passion for Syrah give life to this truly exceptional wine.
